Drowning Prevention For Children and Teenagers

CSA 1 - DROWNING PREVENTION - LITTLE CHILDREN Drowning of little children around the world are mostly preventable. Lack of barriers around a pool and lack of adult supervision are two main causes of children drowning.

Babies under one year most often drown in bathtubs, buckets or toilets

Toddlers between 1 to 4 years of age mostly drown in residential pools

Most young children who drown in pools were last seen in the home, had been out of sight for less than five minutes, and were in the care of either one or both parents at the time.

A responsible adult must watch young children while in the bath and all children swimming or playing in or around water. You should not be involved in any other distracting activity such as reading, playing cards, talking on the phone, or mowing the lawn.

It may sound boring to you, but it could save a child's life.

By the time this message ends, your child could have drowned. Yes, it's THAT fast.

Drowning of teenagers and young adults around the world are mostly preventable. Carelessness and lack of safety measures are two of the causes of teen and adult drowning.

Deaths of teenagers and young adults from drowning are mostly accidental, and usually occur at natural water sources, such as rivers, lakes, and at sea.

Often, carelessness and lack of life-jackets are main causes of teenage drowning

Another main cause is the inability of teens and young adults to swim

If your teenage child is interested in water sports, he or she MUST know how to swim

Always insist that he or she swims with a buddy, and always select swimming sites that have lifeguards whenever possible

Pay attention to "no swimming" signs - they're there for a reason - the area is most likely dangerous for swimmers

Don't leave things to chance, you could be saving the life of someone you know - perhaps even your own.
