Artist on Fire

AOF May 2016: Major Lazer

Major Lazer is our Artist on Fire for May 2016!

It's hard to think of another artist who has his or her feet firmly planted in as many formats as the Mad Decent founder, head honcho and brand ambassador, Diplo.

Equally immersed in Top 40 and hip-hop world as he is in underground club, indie rock and world music, the Grammy-nominated producer is embarking on his most ambitious project yet with the release of the first in a series of Major Lazer albums to come over the next year.  Peace Is The Mission is the third studio album from Major Lazer, the dancehall collective spearheaded by Diplo with trusted co-conspirators Walshy Fire and Jillionaire.

Major Lazer unleashed the first massive single "Lean On", a collaboration with "Turn Down For What" superstar producer DJ Snake and Danish it-girl on the rise , and amassed over 7 million plays on Soundcloud, over 11 million streams on Spotify and over 3 million views on the lyric video in less than a month!

Says Diplo on making the video in India, "India is special and its beauty absolutely humbled me. When we toured there as Major Lazer, it was mind blowing to see our fan-base and we wanted to incorporate the attitude and positive vibes into our video and just do something that embodies the essence of Major Lazer.  Major Lazer has always been a culture mashup and to us, India feels like some kind of special creature with one foot in history and one firmly in the future.  The experience is something we'll never forget."

From throwing their own Kingston, Jamaica festival to appearing in select cities for the Mad Decent Block Party, Mad Decent Boat Party and every club in between, the dancehall-inspired electronic trio have left no stone unturned and no booty unshaken.  They'll cross the globe again this Spring, Summer and Fall with new music and a new show - see 2015 tour dates below with more to be announced.

When Major Lazer first launched in 2008, tastemakers embraced the indie side project and niche underground media outlets championed the sound.  Seven years later, Major Lazer have grown their sound to become integrated with pop music and beyond and continue their ascent, recognized by their peers, fans and media around the world as leaders in a genre they helped to build.
